History and Purpose

Open Door Christian Academy was started in 1978 as a ministry of Open Door Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church, and is governed by the elders and deacons of the church. The school is an inseparable ministry of the church. The current enrollment is approximately 300 students with 20 teachers.

In seeking to fulfill our role of helping Christian families, we see the training of our children and young people to be a top priority. In the formative youth years, patterns are established and commitments made that often determine the course of a lifetime. The primary responsibility for laying this godly foundation lies with parents (Deut. 6:4-9; Eph. 6:4). We, as a church, stand ready to help parents fulfill this vital responsibility through the ministry of our Christian school. We are not a substitute for godly parents instilling godly principles within their children. We are not doing your job for you. We are not ultimately responsible for the rearing of your children. But we do stand alongside to help. Though Open Door Christian Academy was founded specifically to help parents of Open Door Baptist Church in this God-given mandate to train their children, this ministry has been of help to many Christian families of like faith and conviction throughout the Portland area.

Door Christian Academy
exists with a distinctively Christian philosophy. We are not merely a private school offering an alternative to public schools. We are not a Christian school merely because our teachers and students are Christians. We are a Christian school because of a Christ-centered philosophy that believes that Christ is Lord and that in Him “…are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
